Many people looking into getting a job to start a career as security guards in protective services often have a common question.
How much is “Fit” to be a Security Guard?
Your physical fitness is an important factor in this industry, as you will sometimes be needed to patrol large areas on foot, lift heavy objects and deal with various security threats. If your physical abilities do not allow you to achieve these tasks, you may be putting people around you, and yourself at risk.
Some companies may require you to undertake a fitness evaluation, while others may not. If you are worried about the fitness requirements, it would be best to ask the company prior to applying.
If you would like to improve your physical fitness and health, there are a few things you can do, without having to pressure yourself too much.
-Start making small changes in your lifestyle. For example, try to take the stairs instead of the elevator, try to walk instead of using your car or other ways of transportation for short distances, or if you are willing to, include a few hours of exercising at a local gym in your week.
-Avoid junk food and sugary drinks as much as possible.
-Start eating better or include more healthy foods in your diet, such as vegetables and fruit.
